Captain Jack Harkness is a charismatic time traveler first appearing in the 2005 Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child."
Originally presented as a con man from the 51st century, Jack becomes a companion to the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler. He possesses advanced technology and a flirtatious personality, often engaging in witty banter and demonstrating a flexible moral compass.
A pivotal moment occurs when Jack is killed by Daleks and resurrected by Rose Tyler who has been augmented by the power of the time vortex. This renders him immortal, unable to die and permanently stuck in the 21st century, although he is from the 51st.
After his travels with the Doctor, Jack founds Torchwood Three in Cardiff, a secret organization tasked with defending Earth from alien threats. He later rejoins the Doctor on several occasions.
